Leveraging Community Engagement to Develop Sustainable Cycle Culture

Promoting a cycling culture requires a comprehensive approach that involves various principles. Cycle Connect Bhaktapur has been following key strategies to promote a sustainable cycling culture through community engagement. These approaches aim to empower the community and create a sense of ownership towards cycling promotion for long-lasting impact.

Activity-Based Involvement: Organizing Regular Events and encouraging people to actively participate in cycling-related activities, such as group rides, charity events, trainings or bike repair workshops. This helps create a sense of community around cycling and can inspire more people to take up cycling.

Metrics-based Promotion: Using data and metrics to measure the impact of cycling promotion efforts, such as the number of people cycling, the reduction in traffic congestion, and the improvement in air quality. This helps identify areas for improvement and track progress toward cycling promotion goals.

Inclusion-Based Sustainability: Ensuring that cycling promotion efforts are inclusive and sustainable, taking into account the needs and concerns of diverse communities from all gender, social classes, and age groups. This helps ensure that cycling benefits are accessible to everyone and that cycling promotion efforts are long-lasting.

Community-Based Leadership: Empowering community members to take leadership roles in promoting cycling, such as organizing events, advocating for cycling infrastructure, and educating others about cycling benefits in their peer group and affiliated organizations. This helps create a sense of ownership and responsibility for the promotion of cycling within the community.

Objective-based Collaboration: Collaborating with various stakeholders, including government officials, cycling clubs, advocacy groups, and businesses, to achieve specific objectives related to cycling promotion, such as public awareness campaigns, organizing fun events and mission driven events, creating more bike lanes or increasing the number of cyclists on the road
